How to use Angler Alarms

How-to video coming soon. In the meantime, full written instructions are below.

How to Use Your Angler Alarms System

More Fish. More Time.

1. WAKE AND CONNECT (before fishing)

Hold both the Squid Float AND Strike alarm in one hand and shake together 6 times in 6 seconds. After ONE or TWO SECONDS.........

  • 1 beep = Float number 1 is connected and ready to use

One Strike Alarm can monitor up to 3 floats simultaneously. Each float is assigned its own number so you always know which one has been hit.

Hold a second Squid Float and the same Strike Alarm IN ONE HAND and shake together 6 times in 6 seconds. After ONE or TWO SECONDS.........

  • 2 beeps = Float 2 is connected and ready to use
  • Same routine for the third Squid Float where the Strike Alarm gives 3 beeps

2. WHEN YOU GET A STRIKE

When your Squid Float is pulled underwater the Strike Alarm sounds within one second.

  • Float 1 struck → one repeating beep
  • Float 2 struck → two repeating beeps
  • Float 3 struck → three repeating beeps

You always know exactly which Squid Float has been hit.

The time submerged before sounding the alarm is set to minimise false alarms. You will hear these sometimes when retrieving your Squid Floats.

If the Squid Float stays submerged (e.g. monster squid or snagged on the bottom) the alarm sounds for 10 seconds then automatically stops. When the Squid Float surfaces again it resets and resumes normal operation.

3. CHECK IF A FLOAT IS STILL CONNECTED (during fishing)

Shake any Squid Float ON ITS OWN in proximity to the Strike Alarm.

The Strike Alarm will beep back the float's assigned number — confirming it is still connected and being monitored.

  • 1 beep = Squid Float 1 still connected
  • 2 beeps = Squid Float 2 still connected
  • 3 beeps = Squid Float 3 still connected

4. BATTERY CHECK (do this at anytime)

Shake the Squid Float OR Strike Alarm ON ITS OWN 10 or more times.

  • 1x long beep = battery is good
  • No beep = battery needs replacing

Check each component separately — the float and monitor have independent batteries. Based on our testing, most anglers can expect 30 to 40 six-hour fishing sessions per battery.

Replacement batteries are available directly from Angler Alarms.

5. PACK UP

Nothing to do. The Squid Float and Strike Alarm automatically shut off after 6 hours — so even if you forget, the system takes care of itself.

6. HOW TO RIG YOUR FLOAT

We strongly recommend using a lighter line below the stop swivel (below the float) than above it. This gives you the best chance of recovering your Squid Float if your jig becomes snagged.

7. CARING FOR YOUR PRODUCT

  • Keep the Strike Alarm as dry as possible — it is not waterproof
  • Avoid leaving the Squid Float or Strike Alarm somewhere it will bounce around in your boat or car — this can falsely activate the system and drain the battery
  • Store in the tube provided when not in use

Coming soon: A dedicated Angler Alarms smartphone app is currently in development. The app will mean you can also adjust alarm sensitivity and check battery status directly from your phone.
